Blood on the River by Elisa Carbone

RECOMMENDED BY RILEY Mu. PERIOD 8 GOLD

The book Blood on the River tells a great historical fiction story about a young boy named Samuel Collier who is a boy that has come to the new world. He is somewhat of a hot head and learns that violence is not the answer. Samuel has many conflicts throughout this story with native indians and fellow villagers. For example, in the beginning of the book Samuel steals a locket from a pawnshop and then gets caught. By the end of the story Samuel learns to think instead of fighting. This is a great book with a great moral.

There’s just one problem: they were all supposedly killed years ago along with all the particularly nasty villains as well before this duo was born, except for the leaders of the super hero team, The Daltons. Now after an un-settling secret is brought up that leaves both boys and their families in danger, both families try to escape their peaceful town only to fall into the hands of the the people that they’re running from, (who is a SECRET). Now Colin is in a race against time to save his friend Danny from the un-speakable evil that could threaten the lives of our heroes and quite possibly the world.

You might think that you know what it’s like to be a dog, but you will not until you get in the life of Bone the stray puppy that lives in an old, abandoned barn. Bone ends up getting found by two children who end up sneaking him into their house. Their father finds out about it and is not happy about it so he takes Bone in a car ride and throws him out of the window. Bone ends up in a small town that he does not recognize and meets a young, female puppy who tags along with him for his journey through the open world. This is a great book that shows that being a dog is not just tummy rubs and playing ball, a dog’s life is an adventure.
